Online in Ontario

By the Albion Road deskChecked October 1, 2026

Hard Rock Ottawa and Regulated Web Gambling

The AGCO and iGaming Ontario have overseen a regulated online gambling market in Ontario since April 4, 2022. This page explains how to verify a site and why the guide's home page tags each paid link Ad.

Who runs online gambling in Ontario?

Responsibility rests with two bodies. iGaming Ontario handles the conduct and management of online gambling, using private operators to deliver it. The AGCO regulates the market. To be legal, a private operator needs AGCO registration and must also hold an operating agreement from iGaming Ontario. Either one alone falls short.

Ontario also runs a site of its own. OLG.ca is the government-run online casino of the province. Behind it is OLG, the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, which also governs Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Ottawa on Albion Road. Hard Rock International operates the resort itself.

How can a site be checked?

Start with the iGaming Ontario directory at igamingontario.ca. It is the official list of regulated sites in the province. A site missing from the directory sits outside Ontario's regulated market. A logo or a familiar name on a page proves nothing by itself.

Two rules apply to every regulated site. Online access requires being 19+ and physically located in Ontario during play. An Ottawa resident who crosses the river to Gatineau is in Québec, so Ontario's regulated sites are closed to them there. The same goes for a visitor staying on the Gatineau side.

Why does this guide carry ads?

The home page is the only page of this guide with paid links. Each paid link on that page shows an Ad label. A partner running a private online casino sits behind them; its name is not given here, and it may be replaced. The guide does not vouch for that partner, so readers should check it against the iGaming Ontario directory, as they would any online casino.

No paid arrangement sits behind links to the resort, OLG, the province or help services.

BetGuard, at betguard.ca, is run by iGaming Ontario. With it, someone 19 or older can withdraw in one step from every online gambling site Ontario regulates. Its reach stops short of land-based casinos, so at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Ottawa on Albion Road it makes no difference. For a casino floor, OLG's My PlayBreak program is the self-exclusion tool.

Questions to the desk

Does the casino on Albion Road run an online casino?
Nothing in this guide points to one. Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Ottawa is a land-based resort, and the government-run online casino of Ontario is OLG.ca.
Is online play allowed under 19 in Ontario?
No, Ontario sets online play at 19+. The floor on Albion Road follows the same age, with entry and gaming both starting at 19.
Can an Ontario site be played from Gatineau?
A regulated Ontario site may be used only by a player who is physically inside the province. Gatineau is in Québec, so the Ontario rules do not reach a player there.
